Right everyone, please bear with me on this.
I have a netgear wireless router that has 4 pc's connected to it using usb wireless adapters, these all are working ok, today I had to move one of the pc's to another location that is obviously out of range (slightly) of the wireless router, so I cannot connect to the internet, I realised that I'd need some sort of signal boost, maybe an access point to "enhance" the signal so I popped along to PC World and the "IT" guy informed me that i should invest in a Belkin Wireless Access Point (model F5D7130), he said that if I put this roughly between the router & my newly located pc then I'd get a signal, he said that it would work with my netgear wireless router, shrugged his shoulders & said it's as simple as that (oh I wish I had a gun), well I've been trying to get this to work for the last 5 hours...but wait for it, it said on the box that I "must have an exsisting Belkin Wireless Router"...oops...is this true or is this just Belkin trying to force us users to buy their own products, please, anyhelp would be most appreciated (laymans terms too), what do I need to do...help.

TIA

I assume that the idea is to use the AP as Repeater (Extender).

Might be that you need to connect it first to a computer that has TCP/IP is set to Auto, using crossover cable. Log to the AP change its core IP to be of the same subnet as the source Router and configure the AP as a Repeater (Range Extender). Once configured its MAC address should be associated with Wireless source.

When all done it might not work anyway, since APs in a Repeater Mode do not always work with a Wireless source that is made by another Brand.

The best Method to Extend Wireless Coverage depends heavily on the Specific Envioroment.
Look at these pages they describe most of the options that are within the means of Entry Level users, might be that you would find a better solution.
