My 2 computers worked well in LAN. One had win 2000pro (Laptop) and the other win 98. (The Internet connection was thorough the phone line.). Recently I installed cables Internet and I also updated the system so both are working under win 2000pro – since then I have no connection between the computers. The connection between the computers is important to me in order to share files and it is establish when there is no connection to the Internet. Both computers have a good connection to the Internet (each one in separate). When I’m connecting the cable between the 2 computers the green light is off. I can ping successfully the loopback address but I can’t ping to the other computer.
Any suggestion?

Can you clarify your configuration a little more.

Is it like this?
PC1 - ethernet NIC#1 to PC2 via x-over cable
PC1 - ethernet NIC#2 to cable modem

PC2 - ethernet NIC#1 to PC1 via x-over cable
PC2 - dial-up connection to internet

Are you sure you have a x-over cable between the PCs?
Is ICS still installed? (should not be).
Are there any firewalls on either PC? (Disable them for now)

Hi,
I am using the same NIC for Internet via cable modem or for the Ethernet and switching cable as necessary (In my 2 computers).
I will check the x-over cable.
Sorry, what is the ICS?
(No firewalls)
Thanks for your help!

It is not really practical to switch the same connection between the cable modem and the other PC. (You should reboot the PC each time you do this).

You need a permanent connection between the PCs. The configuration I described before is the lowest cost way to do this.

You could then also use ICS to share the internet connection for both PCs.

ICS is windows Internet Connection Sharing. You can read more here:
