i cant seem to get my computers to share a connection. i have tried everything i can think of, here is the situartion:

the school only gives me 1 internet connection port from the wall, and requires cisco clean access agent (to make sure nobody has a virus/other harmful software). clean access agent will not let me log on to the network if i run the connection directly through the router. so, i am running an rj-45 from my school network to my desktop, then i have another rj-45 going out of the desktop to a router, finally i have a third rj-45 running to my laptop from the router. i have managed to share the internet 2x and each time i messed around with the router, trying to get the laptop to work wirelessly, and screwed up my connection. i have tried using the ms network setup wizard about 15x (it worked once previously), i have tried manually configuring the computers and router with about 20 different setups (after it quit working the 2nd time), i have configured the firewalls to allow networking. unfortunately i can not remember the setup i used when the internet was working... I have xp sp2 on both computers. dual gibabit ports on the desktop. 10/100 and 802.11g wireless on the laptop. Belkin wireless g router model f5d7230-4. the school assigns me an ip of 10.0.7.109, so i assume all ip addresses should be 10.0.7.x

Can anyone tell me exactly what my setup should be? if the cable from the desktop to the router should be into the wan port or just a lan connection, what ip addresses i should be using, how i should setup the wan in the router if i use the wan port to connect, etc.

thanks

wow... this post just showed me the type of program i have been looking for for a long time.... <http://forums.practicallynetworked.com/showthread.php?t=5999> but i couldnt download 1.5 from this site, i managed to find it on a portugueses site, but i am getting the same problem as the other post. maybe it doesnt work on xp, xp is supposed to have its own network setup wizard (which is not working for me)...

HA!!!! I got it to work, and i know it will keep on working... I manually configured everything- the thing that kept on messing me up was that windows wanted to share the connection (from the desktop) on 192.168.0.1 and my internet was 10.0.7.109. the key thing i had to do was to change the gateway AND dns server to 192.168.0.1 (on the laptop) for some reason, i guess i never had both at the desktops network connection. i would always go for 10.0.7.109 (which is the internet connection), and by doing the same thing to the wireless ip setup, i got it to work wirelessly. everything is great and fast :D
