Hi Guys,
Hopefully this is a problem easily fixable.
I have a Linksys wireless router. The desktop computer(A) is cabled into the router while the laptop(B) is wireless. When I originally setup the network I had windows xp firewall on (both) and Norton's firewall on (both)... I know now that was wrong to do. Everything connected okay and was up and running. I shared folders on both computers (no problem). But recently I've been having troubles copying files off of the desktop(A) onto the laptop(B). I've disabled all of the firewalls (XP and Norton's)... And checked them several times just to make sure their off. What happens is that I bring up "My Network Places" and double click on the folder that is shared from the Desktop(A) computer. It list the files, but the icons on most of them are the generic icons, and then gradually it updates them to what they are suppose to be (very sluggish). If I click on a file to copy it to the laptop(B) it sits there and seemly does nothing. It takes about 5 mins. then it copies the file. It doesn't matter the file or the folder it does the same thing on all of them.
Copying a file off of the laptop(B) to the desktop(A) computer works fine. I've done ad-aware checks. Disabled all my tasks running in the task manager, with no change (even through msconfig, I've disabled all programs under the startup tab... with no success). The only thing that does work, is to reboot into "safe mode with networking". Then the files start copying quickly... And the icons are right as soon as I open the shared folder.
I've pinged both computers and their fine (no errors at all).
I've tried rerunning the network connection wizard to re-establish a connection with the firewalls off (and Norton's off). Nothing seems to be working.
Both computers are running XP sp2, and the cpu's on both computers are over 3Ghz.
On the Laptop(B) wireless connection icon, it is running at the full 50mbs speed with excellent strength (they should since their only 4 feet away from each other).
Hopefully this is enough info, and someone can solve this issue for me. I'll be forever in your debt :)
Thanks,
JudgementDay
