This is what I put on mine: NTLDR NTDETECT.COM BOOT.INI (this shows the boot where your files are stored) Now the real question, what do you want the boot disk for? What this does is allow you to boot if you loose the files from your systems root. Not much else. If you want to be able to access the system from a bootable floppy then you will need to boot it with a dos (win9x) disk and run a utility like NTFSTODOS Voth oricix 12-31-2002, 09:42 PM ok..let me be more specific then...I want a boot disk to be able to format a computer that has windows 2000 on it...I tried to boot it using a windows XP CD, but it says I cant boot from the CD and keeps on going to the hard drive.......but the hard drive is even more jacked up and says that it wont boot from the hard drive because it says, and I quote "Windows 2000 could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: <windows 2000 root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe." " please re-install a copy of the above file" ...so any help would be necessay...what I eventually want to do is wipe out that whole hard drive and install Xp on it...so if there is a short cut that would be nice E oricix 01-02-2003, 05:28 PM cmon..I know someone knows the answer E vothweirdon 01-02-2003, 06:16 PM Problem is, you can't boot your win2k correct? The problem with windows 2000 and xp is they do not have the ability to create a boot disk like you want. If you have a windows 98 boot disk then you could do it. Using windows 2K server to make boot disks to install 2000 there is a utility on the disk called makedisk.exe or makedisk.bat. What it will do is create 3 disks in which you can use to install 2000 onto a machine. You stated you can't boot from your XP and your 2000 is missing the NTSKERNAL.exe by any chance did you delete the boot.ini file in the C:\ of your machine? If so, that is the reason it can't find the kernal it doesn't know where to look. If you made the disk listed above and set the boot.ini file to read like this: [boot loader] timeout=1 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect C:\CMDCONS\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Recovery Console" /cmdcons Then your 2000 system would boot up from floppy. Then you would copy the boot.ini from the floppy to your c:\ and you would be able to boot from your hard drive again. Voth jaker03 12-13-2007, 03:25 AM Hi Anyone can assist me on the same issue, I am using XP, and whenever I start my computer it prompts as "NTLDR is missing Press Ctrl+alt+Del to restart" I have performed the restart many times but it still goes back to the same prompt. can anyone assist pls tks cszeto 12-30-2007, 02:28 AM jaker03, Technically, this is not a networking issue, but an OS issue. That may account for the lack of response to your posting across these forums. If you have the original XP installation CD, you should be able to boot through that and enable the "repair" option. It will verify and "repair" (really replace) all the installation files either modified or missing, including NTLDR. You will probably need to "repatch" your XP installation upon its completion to catch up with all the current security updates. jaker03 07-04-2008, 10:21 AM Hi All, Thanks For All The Assistance At last it worked cszeto 07-05-2008, 07:42 AM jaker03, congratulations and thank you for the follow-up, but would you mind sharing the actual resolution/outcome? That way other can also benefit. Practicallynetworked.com
