I am in the process of pulling out the last few strands of hair on my head as I type this!! I have two machines in our office which are not connected to the internet but need to share a printer. Everything I have read in the wireless books say that you can set up an ad-hoc network with only two wireless cards.
Each computer has a new Belkin 54g card installed and both computers were set up under the same Workgroup name. The Host machine (Win2k), which by the way, has the printer installed, has an IP address of 192.168.0.2. The reason I did not use 192.168.0.1 is because I have an ethernet card in the machine for back-up purposes which was disabled when the wireless card was installed. The subnet mask was given to me as 255.255.255.0. The second computer or client machine (Win98SE) was given an IP address of 192.168.0.3 with matching subnet mask. When I go to the <Network Places> window on the Host machine, I can see both computers listed when I click on the <Computers Near Me> icon. The Client computer has nothing appearing in the <Network Neighborhood> window. When I try to click on the icon for the Client machine, it either ends up blank or gives me an error message stating this machine can not be found.
My goal here is to be able to share the printer attached to the Host and to create a folder on the Host machine that the Client computer can access. Any help that you the reader can provide, will be greatly apprecaited!!
Thanks in advance,
ceranes
