A Windows XP home edition laptop with D-Link wireless card fails to get to internet through a D-Link 650+ router. It gets a valid IP address from the router via DHCP. Ping to the router and other computers in the sub network (wireless and wireline) works. However, access to any addressed on the WAN side of the network times out.

The same laptop is able to access outside network is connected via direct ethernet cable to router (thus TCP/IP connectivity and domain lookup work). Oher laptops connect to the router wireless and able to get to WAN side.

ipconfig /release and ipconfig/renew gets a new address. Other computers can ping to the suspect's laptop IP addresses. The issue is just getting out to the WAN side using wireless connection just from this laptop.

Is there setting somewhere that restricts internet access only through a specific wireless LAN SSID?

Welcome to the Network Forum.

Wireless is just a replacement to Wire if you can connect internally it should go to the Internet. too.

Pinging does Not mean that you have a valid connection. If you have a valid Wireless connection you should be able to log to the Router’s menu and transfer files between the Wireless and other computers.

If you do have a valid connection try to optimize the TCP/IP stack.
