Hi guys wondered if anyone has any ideas on this one. Have a belkin wireless modem router. had 1 wired pc and 1 wireless laptop setup and working on it. Brought a new wireless nic for my pc so that the router could be moved to another room. set the nic up all fine disconected the lan cable and tested the wireless conection, all worked great. switched everything off and moved the router, now my laptop still works but my pc wont obtain an IP address but can see the router fine. Nothing has changed on my pc settings so cannot see why DHCP has suddenly stopped working..?? try pinging the router and get destination host unreachable cannot access the router admin from pc but can from laptop.. when I do an ipconfig get 0.0.0.00 tried a renew but doesn't obtain one

I don't understand, you say the PC can see the router but cannot ping it. You mean you can only see a wireless radio signal level ? Did the wireless card get an IP address before you moved the router?

If the new wireless card is at its default settings it will look for a wireless network and try to connect to it and get an IP.
Problems that could prevent it connecting:
- Mac authentication enabled in the router.
- Encryption enabled in the router.
- A conflict between the windows zero configuration service and the wireless card utility. Follow the instructions in the card manual.

Thanks for the reply.. yes when I said the pc could see the router I ment that it picks up the wireless router when doing a scan for available wireless devices, but wont obtain an ip and I cannot ping the router ip. Yes the new card did pick up an IP address before I moved the router, but once I switched everything off it couldn't obtain one. There is no encryption set on the router, dont think the mac filtering is turned on either, but I will check this. Any other ideas would be gratefully appreciated

In desperation have now re-built the offending pc. can now ping the router and obtain an ip address but pinging the router gets very intermittent or slow responses 1 in 5 pings time out and the other 4 are anything from 10 -200ms the other pc's ping in 1ms even if I put a laptop next to the pc to rule out interference.. anyone any ideas before I go totally mad.!!!

I didn't understand why you say you put the laptop next to the PC. I guess you mean the laptop pings the router with 1ms even when in almost the same position as the PC.

That seems clear there is some problem with the card in the PC. The ability to ping at all implies the configuration is ok.
The variable and poor ping times implies either:
- A card conflict with something else in the PC. Try moving the card to another PCI slot.
- A defective card.

First check you have the latest firmware and driver for the card from the manufacturers website.
