Hi. Here's the setup of my home network.

2 computers:

Host:
USB cable modem
ethernet card

other computer:
ethernet cable

hub between

Everything is working great, ics, file sharing, etc... But let's say I want to access the "slave" computer from outside my network what ip would I use ?? I know my modem ip which I can get from the master computer but the only ip on the slave computer is the subnet ip (192.168.0.2). If you want to ping the slave computer, what would you ping ? Is that even possible with a hub or is a router needed ?

Thanks

You can access the 'slave' over the internet. The way you access it depends on what you want to do with it.
e.g.
If you want to take it over you use a remote desktop application.
If you want to transfer data from it you might set up an FTP service.

You already have a router = ICS.
You would have to configure ICS to forward the appropriate ports to the slave.

You may have a problem with the cable modem - your IP address may not be static - they change sometimes. The easiest solution is dynamic DNS such as provided by dns2go.

Also, making your PCs accessible from the Internet opens you to some degree of risk. You might consider setting opne of them up in a DMZ. That can be abit tricky but the material that came with my router ghave me enough to get it done. That PC is the only part of my network exposed to the Internet, the rest is behind a firewall. A separate firewall protects the DMZ server itself. That soudns huge but it's really not all that hard, it's a lot of steps but none of them particularly complex.
