I have exhausted Linksys and Iomega tech support. I have a new Linksys WRT54G router connected to my vonage box, which in turn is connected to my DSL modem (fixed IP). I also have an Apple Airport Express as a network extender, and it also acts as a network print server. Everything works perfectly until I connect up a new network attached storage drive from Iomega (Hard Drive High Speed Internet).
After connecting the drive to an ethernet port on the Linksys, I can open the drive and look at folders/files from my IBM Thinkpad T42. Then I start to transfer some files, and everything starts out fine. But after 30 seconds or so, the Wifi speed starts fluctuating. Typically from 54.0 Mbps to 48.0, then back to 54.0, to 18.0, 54.0, 1.0, 54.0, etc. Eventually the file transfer aborts, and I lose total connectivity to the network until I restart the Linksys. Usually the two other computers on the network (one wired, one wifi) also get bumped off. Some times I can even access the Routers setup page after restarting (it loses my password), and have to start all over.
The drive works fine when connected directly to the the port on my laptop, avoiding the network. All of the drivers on my laptop and the Linksys are up to date. My phone service has been perfect so that the DSL connection appears to be fine and unaffected by the issue. WEP is disabled on the Router, as is the firewall on the Thinkpad's wireless connection.
I'm out of possible solutions, and very interested if anyone has seen a similar problem.
