Online gaming via wired/wireless lan

Hi All,

I am currently running a wired lan with 2 pc's (Win XP) connecting to a Belkin router. Also connected to the router is a wireless access point that my PDA uses to gain access to the net.

Soon I am to move my main system downstairs to the living room directly below where it is now. My initial thoughts were to drill and route the cable downstairs to where the sysem would be located but I am not really happy about drilling through the ceiling and having an unsightly cable being visible.

My thoughts now have turned to adding a wireless network card to my system but I have fears about performance especially as the machine is used for online gaming at quite a respectable level.

I would like to know if possible what kind of performance I can expect to achieve using wireless connection compared to a wired connection for gaming.

The wired route is not out of the question, just want to know of any downfalls to wireless before I go drilling away and really upsetting the wife :D

It depends on "where" you game. If it is across the Internet, then the slowest bottleneck is your high speed connection, not necessarily the wireless network.
