how do I open a port?

hey. I just got Earthlink DSL and I'm tryin to host a game on Myth II. whenever I try to host, ppl can't join cuz it says that I have a firewall. whenever I ask someone how I get rid of it, they ask me what kind of router I have. I tell them I don't have a router and they tell me that doesn't make sense. I'm using Windows ME. how do I open port 3453? could u guys help me out plz. thx.

They are correct, it doesn't make sense. Do you have any firewall software installed (Zone Alarm or anything like that?) With out a router your sitting right on the net (basicly wide open for anyone who wants to try to access you)

Little more information about what is running on your machine.

hmmm... I don't believe I have any firewall stuff on my computer. I'm on a Dell Pentium 3 800 mhz comp. mb it came with the computer? other then that I'm totally baffled. could u give me a list of some software that on an average computer that might contain a firewall that I'm not aware of plz. thx.
