Wirelss Setup Help

Hi there,
i need help please as i am pulling my hair out here, i have a laptop with a pc card in the correct slot, i have a wireless adsl broadband modem router.
i have installed the software with the card, rebooted then turned off the computer as instructed and placed my card in as instructed, restart my computer and it continues to install the drivers, after driver installed i still get the computer icon witha red X on in the bottom of my taskbar, it says wireless connection unavailable.
Can anyone help me plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
