I have a small network which is managed by a NT4 server. It has a DSL connection through a router (and then through the DSL modem). After much effort we managed to configure the SERVER to allow the workstations to have internet access. (The problem was in setting up the proper DHCP services)

The remaining issue is that email clients, such as Outlook, will not work.

Does anyone have an idea where the hangup might be? Is there an additional service which must be activated? Where should I start looking?

Thanks.

You need to give a bit more information.
(The reason you needed DHCP is because you probably did not set the DNS on the workstations if you where doing static IP's)

As for mail, what are you connecting to? Are you going out to retrieve mail (hotmail, ISP hosted?) or are you staying in house with your own mail server?

We are not using static IPs except for the router.

]Simply trying to get outlook to be able to send a message through an ISP email server.

Thanks.

The port information is usually the default setting of 25 for the SMTP server and 110 for the POP3

Most of the time, the e-mail client is set up incorrectly.

Check that out, it shows you how the pop and SMTP should be set (most of the time people do not put pop3.myisp.net they just put myisp.net (replace that with your ISP's mail server name) if it still does not work, make sure you can ping it by name (open Command prompt type in ping mailserver.net (using your mail server name)
