Hi Guys,

Neeed help extending Home network.

I'm trying to extend my LAN to another room in the house ( approx 100ft away).

I'm using a " Linksys BEFSR41 4 Port Broadband (wired)Router" with 4 PCs.

I trying to take one PC to another room. So here Is my setup.

==========================
I ran the Cat5e cable through the walls and attached a Leviton Cat 5e Jack at each end with wall plates. I used the 568b color code method.

I then plug a patch cable from the Router #1 port to the wall plate at one end and another cable from the other wall plate to my laptop at the other end. ( All straight patch cables)

But I get "a no connection" with that setup.

Am I doing anything wrong. Is my setup right. This is my first time trying this. Any tips.

Thanks in advance. :)

Whatever cabling standard you use the important thing is the cable thro the wall should be cross over.

The Site in the link above suggests a cross because they assume a particular connection.

Either PC to PC or Switch/Hub to Switch/Hub.

This suggestion is highly questionable and against common practice.

Most home users have a connection that comprise of regular port on a Switch to a PC if you use crossover inbetween it will not work for sure (unless the components are MDX, then anything would work) .

Your scheme should work unless you made a mistake on the keystones or you crimp the patches yourself and they are problematic.
