Here's the situation that I'm faced with. It more than likely has a very simple solution but I just don't understand all this networking stuff. We have a cable modem, we've gotten 2 I.P. addys for our 2 computers. Now HOW am I supposed to network all of it? I was thinking a router, but everywhere I go its talking about 1 I.P. address and we DEFINETELY need 2. My brother is a big online gamer and I'm the music downloader.

Networking isn't all that hard... or at least it shouldn't be that hard. First you really should take a look at some of the help docs on the practically networked website. There are some good simple ones, I do agree though that it can be a bit overwhelming.

First question is, what operating system are these machines, and do they have network cards?
