Hi - a slightly different angle I think. I have a wired router and connect my laptop and pc through it. Naturally it is firewalled. I am getting a computer for my husband and need to get him on the net from another room and also push files onto his new machine. I do not want to use ICS. We may have problems with a cat5 cable and I am considering a wireless access point. If I have one ( cat5ed to the router ), can I expect the usual security problems that one would have with a wireless network. And if so, how can I overcome them? As you can see, I do not have a lot of experience with a network!

A wired connection to the new PC is best if you can put the cable in.
Other options:
- 802.11 WiFi. Adapter on PC. Access Point connected to router
(security issues are over hyped). Not suitable if distance is >50ft and thro a couple of walls. Best for mobility with a laptop.
- Powerline is cheap and easy. Adapter on PC and Router. Adapters can be USB or RJ45. Will work anywhere in the house. Best for a fixed location desktop.

I agree about the cable from the router - the problem is having to drill through door frames! Wifi was what I was thinking with a USB to the new computer ( shuttle case so I do not want to spend time trying to fit a PCI card!). I read that Powerline is MUCH slower than the other options. Am I wrong?
thanks
