I know your thinking we've covered this a thousand times! Well not really.

Under the DW4000 there was PC side software required to run the satellite (sp) modem. However, with the new DW6000 2 way modem there is not software on the PC, it is all contained in the modem.

This revelation leads me to ask the question again-

Hooking up a wireless network with the Direcway modem should be as easy as running the cable from the modem to the router (hub?) on the WAN and then connecting the hardwired PC to the LAN connections and then picking up over WI-FI to a wireless network card.

Well, no such luck. I can get the wireless router (hub?) to see the modem, and the PCs see the router, but none of the PCs can see the modem. Neither the hardwired nor the wireless box can see it.

DirecWay is very UN-helpful with regards to networking their new modem.

I would pay good money to have someone figure this out. Just tell me where to send the check. ;)

Isn't the DW6000 a modem-router ?

If its a modem-router:
DW6000 -> wireless access point -> wired and wireless PCs.

If its a just a modem:
DW6000-> router -> wireless access point -> wired and wireless PCs.
(the router and wireless access point can be a combined wireless router, as I think you are using).

The DW6000 is marketed as a modem. I am not sure what function would make it a router. I can say that there is only one network connection on the modem, the two coaxial (sp) cables (transmit and recieve(sp)), and the power cable.

The wireless device is labeled as a wireless router. It is the D-Link DI-624. It has a single WAN port for a network cable and four LAN ports. Also it's wireless capabilities.

When hardwired to my PC I can set up the wireless router and see it fine on the LAN but I can't see the modem. This is also true through the Wireless connection.

Thanks for you input, it is much appreciated.

I'm not sure what you mean is your problem.

You cannot normally 'see' a modem from within your lan.

Do you mean you cannot access the internet?

Greenstead,

The Direcway DW6000 has an IP of 192.168.0.1. At this address you are looking at the modem diagnostics screen. Here you make setting changes and use other modem tools.

So, I can't get to the modem IP and I can't get to the Internet.

Thanks,

I networkd mine using this info. Pretty simple instructions.
