Hi, I have one Desktop PC with a USB wireless card 802.11b and Laptop with a PCIM wireless card 802.11b both different brands.
After playing around all day with the settings all i have managed is to get a live connection between the two but they are still not communicating(file sharing etc.). I have followed the advice on this page extensively with no real improvements.
[URL=http://www.practicallynetworked.com/support/adhoc_setup.htm]
What I mean by no communication is that under "wireless network connection" there is a Status of connection between the two under the same network name, under sent packets there is 64 but under recieved there is 0 on both. (this is the same problem i get when i use an ethernet cable to connect two laptops together i usually get round this by manual inserting ip addresses which seems to work, im not sure why it works though, however even this doesnt work with the wireless cards.)
The two automatically obtained ip addresses are as follows
169.254.172.177
169.254.186.143
The Ping of the automatically obtained ip addresses, obtain by using command prompt, are
4 packets sent 4 recieved on both 0 lost
The outcome i am trying to get to is the ability to viewed shared folders, run programs over the network and access the desktops internet from my laptop.
I am extermely baffled as to what to do an what welcome any sort of advice.
Cheers

PS I have incidentely fully updated my version of WinXp as i understand the Wireless options are improved in the new service pack.
