I have been play cards at http://hoylegames.sierra.com/ for six years. 2 weeks ago after a windows update i was unable to log into the site to play. After going to the forums several other people with XP are having the same problem. Holye, Sierra, VU Games, or whatever they are calling themselves these days have no clue what it could be. Today I spent 5 hours with Microsoft Support they dont know what it is either. I know its my Xp because i have a laptop with Winows 98 on it and i can get on the site just fine with that. Can someone anyone in this whole world help me figure out what the hell the problem is I would forever be in your debt. I am a huge spades junky and im having withdrawls in the worse way.
btw my user name is my counterstrike name im really s good girl:D

Not enough information. How do your play cards on that site? Via the web or an application? If it's through the web, then consider your IE Security settings. If it's an application, consider your XP firewall settings - since it is now enabled by default.

Do you play by typing a URL/address onto your IE (Internet Explorer) or by running an icon?

I type in the addy on the IE bar.

Then it's probably an IE setting. You might try adding the site to the "Trusted sites" list - "Tools", "Internet Options...", then the "Security" tab.

There is a chance that they are using Java applets which may use their own ports. That may be something to check with the folks at http://hoylegames.sierra.com/. If that's the case, you can then reconfigure the XP firewall to allow those ports to pass when running Java.
