Received a call from a new client who wanted their new DSL installed.

Arrived and there was a 2 Wire Portal connected and delivering a connection to a Sony Computer via hardwire. Client wanted the computer moved some 30 feet to another room and connect wirelessly. (Distance is a best guess)

The new position found the wireless signal but registered low and would not connect. This is a highrise condo that has several walls in between the device and the computer.

My question is: Having never worked with the 2 wire portal was it me or does this sound about right for the signal? There is limited info on their site. Also, I dont think this issue is generic to this brand, but a wireless issue in general.

I don't like wireless for this reason and especially in these types of home units with a lot of walls. It's a warranty nightmare regardless of how many disclaimers you issue.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

i totally agree with you. would be nice to try before you buy. i always, pick up my gear and test the signal before ordering gear for a client. then i recommend cisco gear which is costly. also, it sounds like you have run into an SBC subscriber, i hate 2-wire. anyone who puts the WEP and SSID right on the bar code of their product is really asking for it.

sorry i got off the subject there. have you tried bridging 2 access points together. sometimes this can be accomplished by putting two router/AP into ad-hoc mode and let them bridge around corners, wall etc. yes, it's double the cost, but you never know what's inside those walls.
