I have an Averatec 3200 series notebook with integrated wireless. I'm using a Netgear MR814v2 router, connected to Verizon DSL. Every 10 or 15 minutes, a message pops up saying "one or more wireless networks are available" and it kicks me offline. There's no specific time interval for this happening, it varies every time. The DSL never becomes disconnected, just the wireless connection. I have a desktop system wired into the router that never has problems.

Things I've tried already: upgrading router firmware, updating wireless driver on notebook, changing channel on router from 11 to 5, and tried disabling WEP security (same problems).

I live in the city so I usually have at least 2 or 3 wireless connections to choose from. I set the preferred network to my own. It seems like every time another network becomes available is when I have problems with my connection.

My connection quality never falls below "good" and is usually "excellent," so I know it's not a signal strength issue.

Please help! Any ideas are appreciated.

This is what I found from that posting: "Purposely misconfigure the profile for your neighbor's network as Ad-Hoc and change your setup so you do not connect to Ad-Hoc networks."

I did that on the 2 wireless connections that aren't mine, but once I clicked "access point networks only" the check box defining the other connections as "ad hoc" grayed out and went back to doing the same thing.

I'm running XP home if that makes any difference.

If you are using XP ensure you all the updates for it.
Ensure you have your own SSID set as preferred in the connection wireless settings.
Also ensure you have broadcast enabled in your router.
