Hi guys, im really in need of some help, iv tried all I no and im still not getting no where. First I’ll tell you what im trying to do. 1. I have a PC with a cable modem which is connected to the internet, and I want to be able to share this connection on my PC with my Laptop so I can go on the net with the Laptop wirelessly around the house.

I don’t have a Router.

I have a Belkin Wireless notebook/laptop network card, which of course is for the Laptop, which is running Windows Me, iv installed everything and that’s all running fine.

2. For the PC, which is running Windows xp pro I have a Belkin wireless G USB network adapter and that one is for the PC.

Now they are both installed with no problems, and iv tried doing the pings from the Laptop to see if it was talking with the PC and I get back that its ok. The only thing I have to do is disable my firewall.

But when I try to ping the cable modem from the laptop it says 100% lost, and its not talking to the cable modem.

And the other problem is when I tried to enable sharing on the PC so the Laptop could connect I get this message.

An error occurred while internet connection sharing was being enabled. The service cannot accept control messages at this time.

Anyway if you can help in anyway please do I just don’t no what else to do, im going mad here been at it 3 days now.

Thanks for your time.

Try this website www.ShowMeSimply.com (http://www.showmesimply.com) they show you the whole process from buying to setting up and configuring wired/wireless and router's. Its an audio visual guide it contains full video demonstrations and full screen capture with narration.

I have to say it worked a treat for me and at £5.49 with 7 days online network support its a real bargain!

Hope this helps

Hi,

Get an inexpensive router and avoid ICS. There are a few available for under $50 dollars.

Linksys
Netgear
D-Link

Hi,

If you decide to use a router then you don't need ICS. Router will be set to provide a number of IP addresses automatically for you (DHCP). Make sure each wireless or wired card is set to obtain an IP automatically. Use control panel to check setup for cards.

Please note most routers requirements: You must enter the router's setup page and enter your user name, password and select an internet connection type (examples PPPoE, PPTP, static IP, automatic configuration DHCP, etc.).

Your service internet provided can give you that information.

You can do it!

I don't know why you get that strange error from ICS, it rings a bell but I cannot remember where I have seen it before.

Anyway, your current setup cannot work with ICS. The wireless link directly between laptop and desktop has to be 'ad-hoc'.

You really need a wireless router. I would suggest a Belkin wireless router to ensure compatibility with the other wireless equipment you have.
Such as this:

Then you don't use ICS. You connect the cable modem to the router and the two PCs wirelessly to the router. Its a much better long term solution all round than using ICS. Before you buy a router check with the seller that it is compatible with the wireless devices you already have.

Thanks Taino718 and Greenstead for the info, i guess i'll have to try and get hold of one of these wireless routers.

Thanks
