I recently bought a Linksys Wireless - B network adapter (WUSB11 v2.8). I am trying to connect the adapter to a Linksys Wireless Access Point Router (befw11s4).

The wired computer is a Pentium 4 with Win XP Pro SP2 installed. The router is connected to a cable modem. The WEP Key setting on the router has been enabled (is on the 'mandatory' setting)

The computer with the adapter (wireless) is a P3 with Win XP Pro SP2 installed.

The wireless computer is able to detect the SSID on my Router. I assume this means the adapter is working properly. I have typed one of the four WEP keys and have tried to connect, none of them work.

I have gone through this one hundred times with Linksys tech support. They don't seem to know how to fix the problem. I really need some help.

The computer with the adapter tells me I'm getting an excellent signal. One problem I should mention though, is that when I click on the connect in the Wireless Connection Setting window I am able to connect, but I get a message stating that "the network did not assign a valid IP address in a reasonable amount of time".

Last time I had this problem all I had to do was disable the MAC Filtering, but this time this solution doesn't seem to work.

Help.

I would suggest you disable WEP and get the connection working first.

Well now, it worked, but how can I get the internet connection to work with WEP enabled?

WEP does not make Wireless work, it is just a security measure. You can try to use other measures to stay secure.

I know what WEP if for. The thing is, I need it to protect my network. I live in the city in an apartment. My neighbors live just a few feet away. I don't want them to gain access to my network and to gain access to my computer or whatever. WEP gives me that added sense of security, that's why I would prefer if it were enabled. But thanks for replying though. I changed the encyption level and generated a new key, enabled WEP, and typed the new key into the other comp; and everything is honky dory :D I really appreciate both of your help.
