I apologize in advanced for the really long post. I would really appreciate if anyone could help!

I have a wireless network with about 5 computers hooked up. All the computers have windows XP professional, and range from laptops to desktops. On the computer I use mainly, I have two shared folders: A music folder, and a shared file folder. Does anyone have any ideas about how I should secure these folders? I would like every computer to have access to both folders with only read permissions. I think it would be a good idea to make it so my main account is the only one who can modify files in the shared folders. All the computers are registered to different users, since this is a family setup. I currently have simple file sharing turned off, and I have the everyone group set to read only. I then have my user account set to full access. For some reason, if anyone wants to access these folders, I end up having to map the shared folder with my full-access account inorder for them to get access. I would like them to be able to read the files in the shared folder without providing a password. It would be nice if they had to provide a username, just so i could monitor who was connected, but no password. Does anyone know why I have to map with my account to get access? The whole concept behind eventually allowing everyone to just read, makes me thing about hackers. What if they get in? Couldn't they then be allowed to read all the documents in the shared folders? Is there some sort of an application package that would allow me to specify only computers that have access to the shares, so therefore a hacker or certain computer will be denied access? I'm interesting in some program that would give me moany more options than those that are just provided in the typical windows sharing. I have a feeling that I'm leaning more towards a domain server thing, but I don't think i want to go that far. Can I just install the active directory on my pc? WHAT ARE YOUR SUGGESTIONS.. IM IN NEED OF HELP!!

Thanks sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much
John
