Latest firmware for the ethernet cable modem router 4 port.
I still cannot get most applications to act as a server with DMZ host enabled in my linksys router (192.168.1.1) even though I've already specified the address onto which my computer to become a DMZ host (static IP, 192.168.1.100).
help...

Linksys
Can you explain how to setup a service to the internet from behind your router (e.g. FTP server or web server) - I have never made one so I really don't know.
As I understand it, you either need another static internet address and then place the server in the DMZ or port forward to it. Or you use a static internal address for the server and then you must port forward to it or no-one can find it.
Is this correct?

Anything. From hosting games (counter-strike, warcraft, ut2k3) to sending files via IM (can receive but can't send, messaging works fine).
Tried port forwarding also but with no luck.
this is crap. I should have bough Cisco.

Greenstead,
in hosting an FTP server all you have to do (if you have a linksys router) is use the DMZ capabilities. in using the DMZ it only opens common ports like games, FTP etc... that is if you want to be the server. in using this one first you need ti identify your server. if you have already done that. place that computer into a static IP. and apply it on the DMZ tab of the router and after that do a power cycle.
When in terms of joining a game or accessing an FTP server. use the Forwarding application or the UPNP services. place your computer in a static mode also (it depends upon the Firmware) sometimes using the forwarding capabilities of the router it always works whatever kind of IP you are using (Dynamic and Static) and always enable the protocol TCP and UDP
This is the kind of configuration that i have applied on my computers and it works like a charm
and for you sys. i know you arent happy with a Linksys device, there's no such thing as a perfect device. even cisco is having problems with their devices. well i guess its your call anyway:D

After weeks of another web crawl, I finally able to host games such as Warcraft (6112) by using the Port Forwarding function. I found out now that DMZ and Port Forwarding works but DMZ seems to be having problem from time to time. I still however unable to send files via my MSN Messenger even though I've specified the port used (6891).
Few questions that come into mind:
1. In Linksys's router page section Forwarding, you can only have a maximum of 10 customizable applcations. Is there a way to increase this to let's say 20? 50? 100? What if I have more than 10 applications?
2. UPnP vs Port Triggering vs Port Forwarding - The Difference?
Word of Advice:
If nobody is perfect, and things are made be somebody. Then in reality there are no perfect things. :D

until such time that you have already filled out the ports under the forwarding tab, use the port triggering or the UPNP.
but i think that there is a firmware for that router of yours that would handle multiple opening port capabilities, try to ask Linksys about this.

I have been trying for more than a year now, searching and researching how to forward ports so that I can host a game (which I can!) but NO ONE is able to get in from the GameSpy Lobby. The ports listed in the following link under the title: Port listing, are "required" to fix the problem I assume. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/820877
I need help with a step by step instruction using Linksys on how to open these ports. I tried them but I think maybe I'm making a mistake because I see no success. If I could get help on this, I'll EXTREMELY appreciate it! Thank you.

You might try contacting Linksys for specific (for the model that you have) live support.
