direcway network alternative

:D problem' have 2 pcs both os winxppro. just had direcway satellite 2way system installed. had 56k dial up before. was told i could remove usb cable from back of modem and install usb ported hub, then install the usb cable from the hub to both pcs to network each. was told had to keep usb cable to the other pc under 30 ft.can this work? thanks genmel

It seems to me it would work if Direcway have given you two static internet addresses (one for each PC). You will need a firewall on each PC.

With most cable/DSL ISPs (not all) you take one internet address and share the connection between the PCs with a router or Windows ICS.
