Can someone please help...
After spending 2 hours on the phone with Rogers Cable, and 2 hours on the phone with Linksys....I am not better off than when I started :(
I am using a Linksys BEFSR41 router and, as stated above, Rogers Cable is my ISP.
My problem just started last week, and before that everything was perfect. Now when I try to send emails, I get a 'timeout' error. Sometimes I am able to sneak small emails through, but as soon as there is a lot of text or an attachment it just times out and doesn't send. This is obviously very frustrating. I also noticed that the Internet was sometimes going exceptionally slow. At the moment it is still slow, but at least I can navigate to this forum.
I tried updating to the latest firmware (1.44), but that didn't help. Linksys tech support had me trigger port 110, and said that would work, but it didn't.
All three computers connected to the router are running WinXP. I noticed that when I release the IP on the router and have it refresh, it sometimes still ends up with 0.0.0.0....I'm not sure if this helps.
I really apprecite any insight someome could give me to end this frustration!!! =)

go to the router set-up page by hitting on your internet explorer and type in the address bar 192.168.1.1 after that go to the advance page and look for the MTU. enable the MTU and on the size it should be 1492. enable the Multi cast past through. that should solve your problem

LinkSys101, thanks for the reply.
I did exactly what you said.....actually a Linksys tech representative had me do that.
My MTU is set at 1492 and Multicast Pass Through is enabled.
But, still my problem persists.
The Internet speed isn't actually too bad, but the email still times out. More specifically what I found out is that if I send a small email, it will go through. But, should I send an email with a lot of text or an attachment, it will time out.
Hopefully you or someone else has another idea because I'm absolutely stumped! =)

whats the distance between your Pc to the router, and also from the router to the modem?:confused:are you using outlook?

The router and the modem are directly beside each other.
As for the other three computers, one is directly beside the router, and the other two are further away (one floor up, and two floors up).
I am using Outlook XP.
While I am totally stumped, I am somewhat drawn to the fact that when I release the IP on the router it has difficulty obtaining a new one. That too me seems like it could be the source of the problem.
Can a router break? If they do, does this sound like a something that would occur on a faulty router. I don't want to go out and buy a new one only to experience the same problem but have less money in my pocket! :)

I would suggest you try two things:
1. Sometimes routers get confused. Somewhere on it is a very small button which you hold in and it forces a hard reset and sets it back to factory default settings and also clears any hang ups it may have. You will have to input your settings again. See if that makes a difference.
2. If the problem persists I would remove the router from the loop and plug a PC directly to the modem and see if the problem still persists. That way you find out if the router is causing the problem. It sounds it might be the ISP.

Greenstead, thanks for jumping in with the help. It is very much apprecited.
When I was speaking with a tech support representative for Rogers (ISP) they had me by-pass the router and everything appeared to work fine.
When I was speaking with a tech support representative from Linksys they had me do a hard (and soft) reset.
Unfortunately, neither of those things seem to have worked. :(
I just tried to pass data through the router from one computer to another (just some random zip files) and the speed appeared to be fine. I would imagine that if the speed is fine when doing file transfers within the network, then the speed should be fine when accessing the Internet (and ultimately no time-out errors when sending email).
I'm still stuck.....I hope someone else has an idea....=)

can you send an email when you try to bypass the router and directly connecting your computer to your modem. if you can send an email then thats fine. to solve this issue you need to configure your outlook in such a way that it would work behind the NAT.
go to www.microsoft.com for this.
dont try to reset the router since you have an internet connection. placing your router into a factory default settings would only give you a hard time. as far as i know there's a firmware that was released by linksys its 1.03 att. ask a linksys tech support about this firmware. this one would suite up to your demand
