Can anyone explain how the Dynamic DNS feature on the Linksys BEFSX41 is to be setup?

I have two offices (Main and Remote) I have connected with Linksys BEFSX41 endpoint routers, I can get a VPN tunnel up and running between the two offices, but it of course only lasts until the IP address of the Main endpont router changes (its using DSL and the WAN IP address is dynamic). From reading the help section of the router, if I register with a dynamic DNS service (dydns.org seems to be their preferred vendor) the IP address will be tracked by their name servers and the VPN tunnel will be able to reconnect automatically. Of course the Linksys manual was printed to late to cover this feature and the Linksys web site has no info on how you implement this “feature”.

My big questions are:
1. Does the Dynamic DNS client only need be activated on the “Main” endpoint router , the “Remote” router or both?
2. Do you need to install any other software or is the client embedded in the routers firmware?

Thanks

Well,
The DDNS feature of the VP41 simply doesn't work yet. The idea is great. The box that knows the IP all the time can be used to update a free or custom domain name so that you can use a domain name rather than an IP address on the remote side of the VPN. There is no need to add dns to the one at home, since you'll always be there, unless you want to be able to access it from the outside (ie at the office).

I understand that the SX41 ddns actually works, but for the rest of us, we're looking for the firmware update.

When configuring, the user ID and password are for the DNS service you elect to use. Next, you enter in the domain name...ie myname.homeip.net, apply and update. It SHOULD check the current IP and the IP held on the DNS server and update ONLY if necessary. Otherwise, frequent updates will lead to server overload and that might get your account trashed/banned/suspended.

Hope this helps.
