Optical Nics

Can I just hook up two computers with gigabit optical nics.

I want to hook up the transmit to the receive of both nics. Will this work. I have the two nics, and the cable.

Will this work just like a crossover cable.

I ordered the equipment off of Ebay. I forgot to think first. :D

It should work with the proper fiber cabling (e.g. optical connectors). This forum mostly deals with SOHO networking, so not much, if any optical networking around here.
