Can LAN and Dial Up Connection work separately?

Have AOL on desktop and have a notebook on a wireless (Belkin) connection - can I operate the LAN for file sharing without AOL starting up automatically? If so, how do I do it? Grateful for any help.

Dunno. I wouldn't put AOL on my PC if they paid me.

Really need more info on how your network is configured. Is there some specific problem happening?

On the system performing the unwanted dialing, you might try the following...

In IE select "Tools", "Internet Options...", the "Connections" tab and then select the "Never dial a connections" radio button.
