Hi,

I have a VSAT connection to a Desktop XP Pro. Desktop has a Linksys WMP54G. 2 WRT54Gs both as access point and repeater/bridge with wds for roaming. A HP Pavillion notebook with wi-fi.

Here is my situation. The Notebook can browse the Internet with IE, and can share files with the Desktop. But Outlook Express can't log on my email address.

I decided to add Sygate on the Desktop. And presto! I can email on my Notebook's Outlook Express. Even thought I didn't install Sygate on the Notebook.

Now my question. Is there a way to manually configure XP so that I can use Outlook Express, NewsReaders, etc. on my Notebook w/o the Sygate on the Desktop.

One more strange thing is that, without Sygate, I can't ping the name of each machine on the other end. But I can ping their IP address.

Thanks,
Equinox

Sygate Office runs the network for you and tries to sort out the correct settings for the PCs. It is only installed on the PC which connects to the internet. It seems to be similar to a NAT router but with additional features to manage the network. Its a packaged solution with a price tag.

You should not need Sygate though.

When PCs cannot ping each other by pcname it is generally a Netbios problem. You might run thro my TCP/IP checklist in my sig which may help.

E-mail problems I rarely encounter. There is a satellite FAQ here which may be of help:

You also might try the satellite forums at DSLreports.

Hope this helps some.

Thanks for the help. I have already installed the NetBios during my first installation of the WLAN on both PCs. But its already working;) .

I uninstalled the Sygate and set up ICS. Configured both APs Gateway and Static DNS to point to the Desktop. DCHP on both APs are ON.

IE6, OE, and Newsreader are all working fine.

I have to test for other software and test the WLAN setup for a while though.

Thanks,
