I would like to be able to access a Windows 2000 Server file server for this LAN using a program like Remote Desktop Connection.
The LAN is a TCP/IP network with DirecWay satellite Internet installed on an XP computer and shared throughout the whole LAN with XP's builtin ICS. Besides 8 port switches linking all the computers, printers, etc together there are no routers or other hardware.

If anyone has tackled this before I would greatly appreciate some tips or recommendations on any software or hardware that may be needed.

Thanks,

Maggie

This forum deals most with basic SOHO network setup issues, so there is not much here pertaining to servers in general. There are the Microsoft Terminal Server Services that should be able to do what you are seeking and some folks also use the various incarnations of VNC too.

That's about it as a starting point. The safe setup of any remote access infrastructure requires advance configuration that is beyond what this forum typically covers.
