Hi all,

Hoping to call on some collective knowledge...

I want to build a wireless LAN to link up potentially a dozen or more houses scattered within 3K of my central antena. I plan on getting something fairly powerful like http://www.dlink.co.uk/pages/products/ant241500.asp and mounting it on the roof of my house.

My first concern is, is that everything I need to do to extend the reach of my LAN or are all the other people going to have to get directional aerials and point them at my omni directional? I'm really hoping to be able to beaf up my end (boosters, etc, if required) to keep the cost for an individual low. Is it going to be possible for someone 1 mile way to sit in his house and use my LAN if my antenna is powerful enough.

Also, have I made a good aerial choice? Can you recomend better?

And, finally, any other pitfalls I should be aware off before I start this?

Thanks all.

Ok, so that's one AP, one Aerial, a bunch of NICs and, er, a big metal helmet! :D

Seriously though, thanks for the hint.
