Greetings, I have been looking for days in several forum but cannot find a valid answer to our problem. Maybe somebody can help us.
We teach handicaped persons and for that purpose install a small network with a RG1000 and several portable PC in their facilities.
Everything runs fine as long as we use Windows 98 .

But now we need to migrate some PC to Windows XP. So I installed a network at home with a RG1000 connected to my LAN. The RG1000 is configured as a gateway (no DHCP and no DAT). The LAN is connected to a DLINK router with a wireless Access Point. The "student" systems access the network via the RG1000 and my wife PC uses the DLINK Access Point. Everything runs fine
as long as we use windows 98 on the "student" systems.

The problem is with the "new" Windows XP system. I have installed an ORINOCO SILVER CARD in Windows XP with no specific driver as recommanded in several forum. The card is recognize and can access the DLINK wireless access point.
But I cannot configure the card to access the RG1000. So I installed the Client Manager SW. When I try to Add/Edit a connexion, the standard pc-card configuration window of XP popup, not the Orinoco one.

I suppose that this is a driver problem but cannot find the solution. I tried several links recommanded in several messages, but all links to Orinoco seem to be dead.

Does anybody have an idea.
Thank you in advance,
Tom

I'm not sure I understand exactly the problem.

In XP the orinoco driver is already in XP so you don't install the driver - nor the client utility. It uses XP's Wireless Zero Configuration (so called).

Under network connections you should see the orinoco connection. If you open up its properties you should see a wireless tab where you can configure it. You need to set the properties to connect to non prefered networks. If you have set the RG1000 not to broaddcast its SSID then XP wil not see it.

You can also specifiy the RG1000 SSID in the preferred box of the orinoco wireless properties.

Come back if you have problems with this.

Greenstead,
It works but only when I stop the wireless D-Link. Otherwise it does not recognize the RG1000. When the D-LINK is stopped, the RG1000 is recognized. Then I can restart the D-LINK and both networks are accessible. Not really what I wanted but fix my most urgent problem. I'll be out for 2 weeks but will try again to fix this when back home.
Thank you again for your help.
