Hi,

I have two pcs in a home network. one is connected to the internet(broadband) via a wired router. the other pc is connected to the network via a wireless access point. both use XP.

My problem is that recently, the wireless computer would randomly get disconnected and then reconnect to the network. (it would happen maybe 4-5 times an hour. suddenly in the notification area it would say "connection to wireless network unavailable" and then 10 secs later it would connect again.
this is annoying as any dloads or games are interrupted and lost.

any suggestions?

It could due to a weak signal. If so you would need to extend your coverage.

Or 2.4GHz envioromental Noise, .i.e. 2.4GHz cordless phone Microwaves etc.

hello

I am having a similar experience with my wireless network. It would say "Signal Strength:Excelent" but I am not connected to the network. I would have to unplug the router and reset the connection that way, to get connected.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Excellent Signal can mean Exclellent Noise.

Most people end up "Living or Dying" by the "Silly" Software Signal Strength Indicator in the Wireless Utility.

I measured few time the signal with real Signal Meter and found that the Computer representation is not accurate in many cases.

There are two important Variables in the measure of effective signal.

1 Signal Strength
2. Signal to Noise ration.

Many "Propagation Engineers" will tell you that as far as they are concern the Signal to Noise ratio is more important to ensure proper communication.

The thingie in the Wireless Utility does deal with the Noise, so a person might have very strong signal that is only partialy coming from the Wireless source.

May be this can Help.
