Need just a little more distance! (802.11b)

I have a Linksys BEFW11S4 router and WPC11 notebook adapter. These are both B-only products. The router is in my office and I get somewhat spotty reception in the living room. The living room couch is just on the edge of the range--for example, putting my laptop in my lap versus the coffee table actually makes a difference in reception :)

Would welcome any suggestions on how to get that little bit of extra distance.
