D-Link 614+ to Cable Modem/RR problem, please help

Installing a D-Link 614+. Wireless and wired works fine. The two machines can talk to each other and have their LAN DHCP addresses just fine.

What happens:
614 gets WAN address from RR via DHCP.
614 will not route any traffic/requests out.
cant ping out,
cant ping the ip of the RR gateway, DNS servers, nothing
doing a ping test from the D-link router config times out

I've upgraded the firmware to 2.1.
No firewall settings or the like have been made.
The cable modem (surfboard) worked fine with 1 computer with a lan card.

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Some ISPs require you register the MAC address of the modem with them.

Some ISPs require you also register the MAC address of the single device connected to the modem i.e. the PC or router. Try spoofing the MAC address of the PC in the router. Or call RR and tell them you have changed the device attached to the modem.

Reading your first post again more carefully.

The two PCs can share resources but neither can ping the router LAN address ? But you say the PCs got their IP from the router DHCP service ?

Sounds like they are on different subnets. Do you mind posting the LAN IP and subnet mask of each PC and the router (Not the WAN address).

The 2 machines can ping each other
they can ping the routers lan address
they can ping the routers wan address
they can not ping the RR gateway address (the d-link routers gateway)

the d-link router got the dhcp info, is loaded with the dns server addresses and RR gateway address.

the subnets are correct, i dont have access to the devices at the moment, so i cant post the addresses.

Never mind the IPs, they are on the same subnet.

OK - next guess.

Sometimes the NICs do not pick up the DNS addresses. Do they show in the NIC properties? If not paste them in, or the router LAN address will do just as well.

This isn't the case. I was pinging by IP addreess.

Hmm..I see. I'm just not reading your posts well enough, or maybe I don't want to believe what I hear.

From what you say your router gets it WAN IP and DNS addresses OK from the ISP but you can't ping out. Thats quite a contradiction and I've not heard of it before.

My suggestion then, if you haven't already tried this.
Most routers have a small button on them to reset the router to factory default, it also clears down hangups the router may have which a simple power cycle will not clear. Hard reset the router and re-enter any configuration data..SSID, spoofed MAC address etc.
Then power down router and modem. Power up modem and let it full come on-line. Then power up the router.

The try to ping out again.

If that doesn't fix it I would call D-Link and ask for an RMA.

Gave up on the D-Link, returned it, got a linksys, works fine.
