AT&T cable connection
HP Pavilion home computer - hardwired to network
Toshiba Tecra 9000 - wireless connection to network desired

Toshiba has built-in Toshiba wireless lan min PCI card (OEM Lucent)

I connected my HP to the router and works fine.

I am unable to connect my laptop to WAP.

Trying to use SSID linksys and channel 10 - Unable to do so.

Network & Dial-up connections window shows status - Network cable unplugged for the Wireless Card.

TCP/IP properties set to DHCP enabled.

Toshiba Wireless LAN Manager card test shows all self-tests ok.
but
Status shows
searching for network - linksys
channel - 10
Signal strength - none

Site monitor does not show any infrastructure

What am I missing?

Thanks.

Go to Network Connections and open the wireless connection. Open Driver Configuration, Advanced tab and ensure mode is 'infrastruture' and SSID is correct.

Here is what I followed for setting up the wireless card
1. Opened "Wireless Network" in "Control Panel".
2. Added new Configuration Profile.
- Profile Name (Default Setting is "Default") - linksys
- Access mode (Default Setting "Access Point") - Access Point
- Network Name - linksys
as required by LinkSys)
- Additional Setting (Data Security Setting, etc) - none
3. Restarted Windows.

Access mode has Residential Gateway & Peer-to-Peer Group

This should be as you suggested. I have ensured that the channel used is 10.

What else could be missing?

Thanks.

Hmm..strange.

Ok try this:
Network connections->open properties for wireless card->wireless networks tab->Advanced->check 'Access point networks only'.

I finally got thre wireless connection working. I am seeing excellent signal strength for the radio connection with my Access Point.

Looks like I am just a step away from getting it.

Now I am seeing that I have no connection to the Access Point. I guess it is because of the configuration.

My wireless network connection is DHCP enabled but AP is not assigning an IP address to it. On checking various parameters, I found that my laptop is configured to have a Primary DNS suffix and is a member of a Domain.

Should this be the problem? Either way, how should I resolve the issue?

Thanks in advance.

I don't see that should be a problem.

Check that the Linksys is configured as the LAN DHCP server.

I finally got my wireless connection working.

I had to apply a fix to Window 2000 SP2 for it to get it working.

I would like to thank you for suggestions offered.
