help...wireless ap working, but....

I have roadrunner cable service with a linksys router w/ 4 port switch. well i had my pc hardwired to router and all was cool. I play Return to Castle Wolfenstien religously. Hooked up a hawking wireless AP to the router and put a hawking wireless pci card in my PC.

Well i thought i got everything working 100%. web opened fine. i could d/l anything fine. played some games fine. But my RTCW would not connect to any servers. It seemed to work ok, but when the game wanted info back from servers nothing came.

Without the wirless ap, i didnt have to do anything special for my pc (open ports, use dmz) nothing....and it all worked.

with the wireless ap i tried opening all ports the game uses and even tried using dmz and i still got nothing.

I cant get help from activision because i run the game from behind a firewall and because i use products from 2 different companies they each say the others product is screwing me up.

i cant get ANY help from the wolf forums, so plz somebody shed some light on me (or my problem any ways).

i read that the wireless ap isnt a 100% transparent addition (its not like a wired hub/switch). so if this might be where im hitched (trying to get the tcp + udp packets to my pc through the wireless ap, maybe need a trick or something.) plz share.

I don't know the answer to your problem.

But that wireless access point sounds more like a wireless router. An AP does not normally have port blocking in it - or are you referring to opening ports in the Linksys. What model is the AP? The AP should be just like a Hub - where did you read otherwise?

I read, i beleive, on this site somewhere that when you integrate a wireless ap into a wired network, the router doesnt correctly navigate information through the ap to the correct pc. I dont know the details of how a router/switch pushes information back to the appropriate computer through the wireless ap. Thats about the only point of my network that i am not fully knowledgable about and the only point that i can imagine my problem being.

And yes, i meant that while the wireless ap was connected, i was using my wireless pci card. At that time I attempted to open all game related ports on the linksys router to my computer and even tried using dmz from my linksys router and open my computer up.

Heres my question. If i use the wireless ap and my computer is say ip 192.168.1.102 then do i just set up my router to forward ports to 192.168.1.102? Thats what i assumed, but it doesnt seem to be helping any.

well im stumped and i hope that God hits me with this incredible understanding of my network that im not grasping right now. That way i can have my wireless, my game, and be happy.

The answer to your question is 'yes'. An AP does not translate addresses nor does it route. It is just a wireless-to-ethernet bridge.

Unfortunately hawking do not seem to have on-line manuals.

Some APs do have an optional DHCP server which in your case should be disabled.
