Hi,

I have just got some wireless equipment and have run into the problem of multiple access points, but this could just be cause I don't understand it properly

Currently have 2 DWL-2000AP+ and 4 DWL-G520+.

I have managed to get all the machines connecting to 1 access point running off the DHCP server that I started on 1 of the access points but if I bring in another access point, problems arise. I have rung Dlink technical support and they said that I needed to put the access points on different channels and then they would work, and it didn't. It just allowed me to plug both access points into the wall and for the AP manager to detect 2 access points but I can't get a computer on 1 access point to see a computer on the other. I rang them again and this time tell me that I must link the access points with a crossover cable but I would rather not do that.

They say this should work:

but I need it to work this way,

Is there something I am missing or can this simply not be done

Access Points can be configure as a Bridge and then they can talk one to the other (like in your want pic.).

However when configured as a Bridge they can not talk to clients.

If the Access Point in the left of your want pic. can be configured as a Repeater (like a D-Link 900AP+) it would talk to both the other Access Point and the Clients.

BTW. Clients on the Repeater will get only half of the Speed.

so the only way to do this would be to either get 2 more access points and run 2 access points at each point connected via cross over, then config an access point at each end to bridge the gap like bridging lans and configure the other 2 at each end to act as the access point ?

If this is the case this could prove an expensive route. Either that or a straight through cable.

I don't think the access points that I have support repeater mode

problem solved,

turns out there is a firmware update (version 1.10) which once installed on the Dlink 2000AP+ adds the extra options for repeater mode
