I probably need some hand-holding to get my network working right. I've read all that I can and have applied things I've read. Seems things just keep getting worse.

Here is basic setup
Computer #1- Win98se, 700mhz athlon, connected to internet thru an Arescom DSL (MSN) modem. This computer has a D-link DI-614+b router connected to the computer with Ethernet.

Computer #2- WIN XP with D-link DWL-122 USB. During install of this component I let XP basically do what it wanted to install and manage. I can connect to the network and even print to the computer hooked to #1. I can also access the internet. The problem is; When #2 is on the network, even if just setting idle, Computer #1 can't access the internet. I have to shut down the network on Computer #2 before it will let me. It almost reminds me of overburdening the router even though it is idle.

The ultimate objective is to be able to run both computers on DSL at same time, or at least not need to shut down #2 for #1 to access internet. And we also want to be able to play multi-player video games between the two. We've tried Call of Duty and have not been able to do it.

Is there someone who would be willing to help me thru this step-by-step? I'm begging.

Thanks

"Connected to internet thru an Arescom DSL (MSN)"

Is this is Internal Modem?

If it is an external Modem than the connection should be:

DSL Modem to Wireless Router to Wired Computer.

The Wirless Computer will connect directly to the Router.

If you are connected correctly and it does not work than you should call D-Link, it might be faulty Router.

If you would like to go first over your Network Settings.

Log to this page it has a lot of links to instructions to Windows Network Setting and Sharing.

Link to: Network - Installing and Sharing. (http://www.ezlan.net/Installing.html)

Friend;

As Jack MDS said if ur hardware is not faulty and u have connected correctly(which i assume as u can shre printer and ICS individually) no reason u cannot have ics together just as i am now using ICS at 3 PC at once

I have this problem before so i would like to comment
it is me meddling at the winXP network icon at base station computer(computer #1 in ur case
)After i format reinstall XP ;plug in wire reset wireless access point just few basic configuration on user name apssword VCI value pppoelc connect to internet at base station PC
just locate wireless LAN at laptop with wifi card
click on connect nad that is that u can have ICS at same time

By way i am using Aztech 305 EW which is a gateway

Ur only significant differences is Win98SE in base station PCwin98 SE is not so wireless friendly as xp

Do u know that winXP can dual boot by default?
Keep present win98; install XP on ur computer #! choose option of installing another new OS
win XP will be install for u to dual boot
since hardware is exactly same u can try to see if winxp in computer #1 allow simultaneous ICS or not?
that will rule out hardware problem

Problem is after that u are stuck with a dual boot OS in ur computer # 1
I have not used it long time( but have used before) and not sure whether u can remove this second OS from add/remove programme ; others may wish to comment if they still remember

normal practice i think should be XP for DSL line and access point/gateway and 98 for client laptop; if practical try this arrangement
