Ok Let me just first of all explain what the situation is here, so I can let you guys (the experts) hopefully figure this one out.

I am using a wireless network card right now in one computer which connects to an external range extender antenna which in turn connects to a remote access point on top of a tower about a half a mile away providing internet access. This provides terrible results, Signal strength Low-Good, and connection speeds top out at about 10k/sec, when the provider advertises 512kbps, which is somewhere around 60/sec. Anyway, I suspect the problem is my antenna is not strong enough.

The other day I was just poking around my Windows XP Network neighborhood and I saw some people on my WAN had some files shared so I decided to download one to see how fast it would go. MAN WAS I AMAZED. Like a 50MB file in less than five minutes. Not bad. SO I contacted the person who owns this computer, and we have a solution, or idea maybe for me to get faster internet using Windows XP ICS.

Is it possible for me to connect directly to his Windows XP Machine using ICS, and then retrieving external (Internet) data through his machine since I have a much better connection to him than the access point directly, and he is connecting to the same access point anyway? Will this work or do I need a network bridge or some really expensive equipment.? Will this work or should I just fork out 300bucks for a new strong antenna???

THANKS FOR ANYONE WHO RESPONDS. Ive asked a few people and no solution yet, it seems to me like it should work.

Thanks again!

If you have the money, I would go with the new antenna. Do you need an amp to really boost the antenna range?
