Does anyone has experience with powerline products for home networking? i would like to know if they really work and what is the actual speed they use.

I picked up 5 Gigafast HomePlug USB adaptors from Fry's, back when they were phasing them out and had a free after rebate deal for up to 5 of 'em. I had some initial problems getting them to work with some of the older Win 98 systems in the house, but that's more a 98 + USB issue than anything. On my 2000 and XP systems they work perfectly, though they're only USB 1.1 and limited to 10Mbps. But as far as length limitations or anything like that go I've networked my lappy to my main computer over about 900 feet of wiring -- well beyond what the packaging guaranteed -- and the speed didn't seem to be affected beyond the limitations of USB 1.1. All in all I'd say if you can find some of the adaptors cheap it's a great alternative. Almost as go-anywhere as wireless. Now if only I could manage to adapt one of these things to send my basic cable through it so I could watch TV downstairs....
