ok i have 2 comps 1 is the gateway and the other is the client. on the client it says i have *** network adapter #3....but i only have 1 installed in the comp. i am looking for the reg entries to delete the other 2 virtual nic's. the problem is on my gateway comp i have 2 nics (1 is for my DSL the other is my home network) and on my client i can access the net but cannot access my gateway computer for file sharing. i also cannot see each other on my internal network w/ the firewall disabled or enabled. Both are running XP Pro. The Gateway is running Nortons personal firewall.

XP retains the connection settings for each different connection you set up. e.g. if you move the NIC to another slot. It does not matter and does not need cleaning up. Editing the registry is not worth the risk. You can rename the connection to anything you want.

Presumably you have enabled ICS on the host to provide the internet access by the client.

To resolve the sharing problem I suggest you run the checks linked to my sig below.
