I was wondering if anyone knew how to wake up this mainboard from shutdown mode using Wake on Lan, or whatever over a network, or if it's even possible. It has built-in Broadcom ethernet with a boot rom. There is NO provision on the board for a wol cable to connect to. (a step backwards?)
The bios is set to wake up on PCI card, and the adapter wake up capabilities has been set to Magic Frame as per the manual for Wake on Lan. I can wake up any other system on my network no problem.. I would appreciate any info on how to resolve this.

Well, I figured it out, so this is just some info sharing..
Using the onboard Broadcom nic, WOL will not work. Sticking another NIC in a PCI slot does however, without even connecting the wol cable (there's no place to connect it anyway). Enable the Power up on PCI Card in the Bios, and that's all that's needed.. works great.. Also, the Magic Packet utility from the AMD site is neat.. you can wake one, a group, or you and even set a timer to have one or a group wake up.. neat. check it out at http://www.amd.com/us-en/ConnectivitySolutions/ProductInformation/0,,50_2330_6629_3276%5e2452%5e2456,00.html

So I literally have to get a new NIC card and stick that in b4 it will work?
This seems pretty dumbass since the board comes with gigabit LAN built in...

I have a a7v8x with an integrated broadcom; I added a Realtek RTL8139 and I indeed couldn't find a place to connect the wol cable, but it still isn't working. I enabled in the bios and I tried my linux box to send WOL packets using a ton of different programs, but no response.. I can wake up my pc using ctrl-esc, but the two lights on my NIC are turned off the moment I shut down. Any suggestions?

Okay I found the solution... I was getting tired of it so I shut down my computer, just to see that it woke up again! My previous tests used the hibernate function of windows XP, which allowed for faster testing; but now I see that WOL doesn't work with hibernate, but it does work with total shutdown!
So new question: how to get WOL working with hibernate? :)
