I have the new WGT624 from Netgear. I cannot get an IP address from Bell South. I have a bridged account from Bell South, which requires that I use my MAC address to authenticate--I do not use a login and password.
Netgear tech support has sent me three WGT624 trying to resolve this problem.
I am connecting to an Alcatel 1000 modem.
Does anyone have any ideas?

I thought Bell South was DSL PPPoE ?
Try this thread, it might help you.

The problem has been resolved.
The WGT624 does not communicate well with the Alcatel 1000. I did the following
1. Switched out the Alcatel modem to a Westell modem
2. Added a line swap to my phone jack -- data and voice are split so the Westell was looking for the standard phone jack (I have had DSL for 5 years and when they first set it up, they split your line and sent the voice to the phone and the data to the DSL modem)
3. Changed the account type to Bridge from PPP (or what ever its called). Disabled DHCP on the Westell (so that the MAC setup on my router would get passed to BellSouth, as Bridge accounts use MAC addresses to authenticate)
Now I can connect through the WGT624. My old Linksys worked just fine with the Alcatel. Netgear had sent me a cable to work with the Alcaltel, and that enabled me to get an IP, but the internet speed was dog slow.
Now that I connected with the Westel, I am finding the WGT624 slower than either a direct connect to the modem from my PC or my old Linksys.
