hi All

The correct answer to this question gets $10 via Paypal!

I've got a Netgear ADSL router, with a Netgear ME102 access point plugged into it. I've been using WiFi to hook up through the AP to the router to pick up a DHCP address, then connect through to the web.

I've just bought another WiFi adapter for a desktop machine upstairs. This machine can see the router and get to the web, but neither machine can see, or ping, each other.

I have the AP set to AP mode, and the clients in Infrastructure mode. The access point supports bridging, incl point to point and point to multipoint.

The question is this - what do I do to set up all clients so that they can talk to each other, but they also access the web through the ME102 to the router and out?

Thanks for all your help - if you can!

Cheers

You sound mostly correct already.

The AP should be in infrastructure mode.
The wifi cards should be in infrastructure mode.
The DHCP service in the router should be on.
All NICs, including the wifi cards should be set to get an IP address and DNS address automatically.

See my sig for other things worth checking.

IF you still have problems post an Ipconfig /all output from each PC.

Hi Greenstead

If that is how to set it up, something must be wrong! I have the router set to 192.168.0.1, with a DHCP scope starting at 192.168.0.10. All clients get their IP from this scope, but the access point is config'd to be static on 0.5

I have everything in Inf mode, and clients are picking up DHCP, but they still can't ping each other. I'm not sure about their workgroup settings, but then I'm trying to ping so they shouldn't need anything else. I'm an MCSE so I've got a fairly good grasp of this, and it just doesn't make sense.

Any ideas? If I can't figure it out, I'll post some ipconfig /all grabs tonight....

Cheers

One other thing to add - an arp -a shows the correct MAC addresses for each client, but still no ping......

Have you come across Section 4 of the readme.txt within the following firmware upgrade at ftp://downloads.netgear.com/files/netgear1/me12v14h3.zip?

According to that information, you may need to diable the power save function.
