This may sound like a dumb question but here goes. Is is possible to make have a networked printer connected to a wireless network via a USB wireless adapater? Or do I have to go down the whole print server road?

I'm going to be getting a Netgear wireless AP with a 4 port hub for making a wireless network for 2 laptops. The laptops will be connected with normal PCMCIA cards. Now I know I could just plug a printer into one of the hub ports through a regular ethernet connection and use it that way. The problem is that where the access point is we might not have a lot of space to put a printer and/or it may look crappy sitting on our entertainment center in the living room.

So I was wondering I could get a printer with a USB interface and plug in a USB network connector into the printer and put the printer anywhere I wanted in my condo. It seems like this should work, right? Also, if this is possible will the USB wireless interface also have a MAC address I can use for MAC filtering with my router? If so, how could I discover the MAC address of the device if it was connected to the printer?

I was checking out printers, and this one for example comes with a USB 2.0 interface:

Thanks,

USB to Ethernet Adaptor needs a Computer on the USB side. You can not plug an adaptor into a USB Client (like printer) and make it Ethernet.

However this product meant for you.

D- Link DP-311U is a wireless print server with one USB port. (http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=38)

Thanks so much! That is exactly what I was looking for. I was seeing wireless bridges and USB print servers but they were all separate products. This thing is the whole deal all in one.

Thanks again for the great tip,
