Can any one explain to me how to set up a wireless network using Direcway Satellite 2 way system. Since there is no ethernet connection on the Direcway modems how do I set up the Router to work so it will communicate with the cardbus Adapeter?
I am using a D-link AirPlus XtremeG 802.11g wireless router and a D-link AirPlus XtremeG 802.11g cardbus adapter.
Thanks.

You cannot connect a standard router to Direcway. Direcway uses a special client software for satellite communications.
You have to connect a PC to Direcway and run ICS on the connection, and then connect the PC to your network.
Hi Greenstead,
Thank you for your help!
As I am truely a newbie to networking would you mind explaining what " ICS" is and how I run it on the connection?
I hope you don't mind giving me a bit of step by step help.
Thank you in advance!:)

ICS is M$ Windows Internet Connection Sharing. It allows you to share an internet connection on one PC (Host) with all your other PCs (clients).
You can read about it here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;310563&Product=winxp
I assume your Host PC connected to Direcway is an XP PC.
The Host PC needs a connection to the internet (i.e. Direcway) and a NIC connection to another PC (or switch). If the connection is to another PC use a cross-over UTP cable (buy one). If to a modern switch any UTP cable will do.
To enable ICS
Open Network connections. Right click on the connection to Direcway and select properties from the drop down list. Go to the Advanced tab and check 'Internet Connection Sharing'. Close all.
Then reboot any connected client PCs and they will connect to the Host PC and should be able to access the internet.
Sounds easy?
Its rarely that easy.
Hi Greenstead,
Thank you, once again for your help and expertise!
What I am trying to do is connect my computer with direcway to a device I bought called the PRISMIQ Media Gateway. www.prismiq.com.
If I understand correctly can I connect a wireless router to the switch to communicate with a wireless card that goes into the PRISMIQ?
Thank you for your consideration.
